1989 Blue Jays Fire Safety

 Hello Friends!

Stuart sent me this one as well.. In fact, he sent me two. I also ended up having a number of the set already, so this allowed me to have one set, keep a Ducey (that I already had) for my Canadians binder, and have a full set to do what I want with.

1989's theme was "On the Move" It worked for a couple reasons. First, it alludes to the action on the field. Second, 1989 was the season the Jays moved from the worst stadium in sports (as stated by Paul Beeston) to the SkyDome.

Jesse is always nice to get as a Jay. As I said yesterday, he's on the Twitmachine and is a great person to talk to.

For the most part I'm just showing the cards I didn't have already.

The three catchers. The Catching B's.. Borders, Brenly, and Butera. Butera's final games were played with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Brenly is an interesting one. He was actually on the 89 team. Butera's final season was 88.. Borders would go on to be World Series MVP in 1992 and play forever..

The back of the cards. Basically the same as the last ones I showed. Though this time the fire safety tips come in the way of a quiz.

Tom Lawless was another short time Jay, playing 74 games between 89-90.

The back of the coach cards..

And of course, the honourary Canadian, Ernie Whitt.

There was something else in that package that really could be its own post, but why not just show it now?

As you know, I'm collecting Montreal Expos cards.. I want to get the sets that came in Archives, both the non-autographed and the autographed.
This one helps me on the way a little..

Steve Rogers! Who, if he pitched within the last 20 years would probably be nicknamed Captain America. Instead, he pitched in the 70s and 80s, quitetly putting together a decent career with Montreal.

Thank you again Stuart!

  1. Nice Rogers. I'm three cards away from completing that autograph set. Sadly... it's the three most expensive.

    1. That's usually how it goes.. I have Ken Hill, Fassero, and Rogers.. I might have Grissom, but I don't recall.
I'm guessing the expensive ones are Vlad, Pedro, and Randy Johnson
