Collecting Question

I've been thinking about starting a new collection.

I've found people in different sports with the last name Matson or Mattson.

So. I posed this question on Twitter, but does anyone collect cards of people with their last name?

  1. I would out of the fact that no one sharing my last name has ever played a sport. If one did, out of the shear novelty, I would.

  2. Timely question. I didn't think there were any with my last name, but I happened upon one just the other day while doing research for a post, which then led me to finding another one. And yes, I will now be seeking out cards from both of them.

  3. I don't think there's ever been a prominent athlete with my last name (Alan is my middle name), but I became a big fan and collector of George Brett because his last name is my first name.

  4. I think this would be a fun side collection. A crazy idea may be to see how many miles you could get!

    1. I think the most expensive part would be Ollie Matson. NFL player in the 50s and 60s

  5. There has been on recent pitcher with my last name, but he's been on the Mets, Red Sox, and Rays...so nope!

  6. It pains me as an Ohio State fan, but I do have a small collection of late 1990s University of Michigan quarterback Drew Henson. Henson also played in the Yankees farm system which pains me as a Cleveland fan.

  7. I have a few Mel Ott cards -- Okay, close to 800 unique ones according to TCDB ;)
Felt a compulsion to buy a couple of Ed Ott, Travis Ott and Mike Olt cards.
I own a card of Ott Heller of the 1930's NY Rangers, though his first name was actually Ehrhardt.
