Hello Friends!
Well, I made a purchase that was very intresting to get to me..
I found out that Fritsch cards still sells the AAGPBL sets (except for Series 2 for some reason) and since I'm looking for a number of the cards due to the ladies being Canadian, I bought what was available.
Now, why I say it was interesting to get to me is this: Fritsch doesn't ship to Canadian addresses. So I had to send to Stuart, who in turn, sent to me. It's kind of annoying, but there's ways to work around anything if you explore enough.
So out of the cards I received, remember, was Series 1 and Series 3 and Update, There were a number of Canadian women. I'll show those cards today
The front of the card shows a black and white image of the player. Sometimes the name can be tough to read.
The backs are nice. They have the pertinent information. Some have stats if they were published. Some do not.. They all have a little writeup on the player though which is kind of cool.
Helen Callaghan is, of course, Casey Candaele's mother.
Casey's Aunt..
One of the interesting things about these cards is the Birthplace information. For example, I've never heard of this place in Saskatchewan. So I may need to do a Google Maps Geography lesson for myself.
For some reason, I want to say Dottie is one of the more known players from the league, but I may be talking out a random orifice.. I know the picture used on her card is fairly well known.
Audrey doesn't have a little write up because she was a batter and a pitcher, so they have both sets of stats here for her.
One little nit to pick on this card.. Technically it's a UER because Lloydminster is one word. But like I said, it's a little nit to pick.
I noticed in looking at the backs that most of the players were from the Prairies or BC. Unless there's Ontarians and East Coasters in Series 2, I feel like the 68 women who played were from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, or BC.
So St. Vital is now a neighbourhood in Winnipeg. It was its own entity until the 1970s
An Ontarian! Chathamite.
Breaking your leg right after signing a contract has to suck..
And this ends Series 1 Canadian content.
Next post will have Series 3 and the Update.
I really couldn't add too much to these, other than I really enjoy the cards. The different colours on the back are very 91 Score, which honestly was confusing till I realized it was all one Series.
I kind of wish I was able to watch these ladies play

Very cool. I was able to get Dottie Hunter to sign hers a while ago.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely wish I was around to watch them play.
ReplyDeleteCool set. I remember when Fritsch would put a sample card from the set in with whatever you ordered from them.
