1988 CMC Tacoma Tigers

Today I want to cover the Tacoma Tigers from 1988
They went 62-82 in the Pacific Coast League North, good for last place. 
They were the Athletics' affiliate. 

So, who was on this team? 


Alex Sanchez played from 1978-1998
He made the Majors for Philadelphia in 1982-1983, San Francisco in 1984, Detroit in 1985, Minnesota in 1986, and Oakland in 1987. 
Overall, he played in the Phillies (78-83), Giants (84), Tigers (85), Twins (86), and Athletics (87-88) organizations. 
He also played in Mexico from 1989-1994 and in the Independent Leagues from 1997-1998


Andre Robertson played from 1979-1989
He played in the Majors for the Yankees from 1981-1985
Overall, he played in the Blue Jays (79), Yankees (80-86), Braves (86), Mariners (87), Athletics (88), and Rangers (89) organizations.  


Bob Stoddard played from 1978-1995
He played in the Majors for Seattle from 1981-1984, Detroit in 1985, San Diego in 1986, and Kansas City in 1987. 
Overall, he played in the Mariners (78-85), Tigers (85), Padres (86), Athletics (86, 88), Royals (87),  Brewers (88-89), and Mets (95) organizations. 


Brian Snyder played from 1979-1990
He played in the Majors for Seattle in 1985 and Oakland in 1989.
Overall, he played for the Mariners (79-85), Padres (86-87), Athletics (88-89) and Braves (90) Organzations. 
Brian's son, Brandon plays for the Washington Nationals. 



Charlie Corbell played from 1983-1989
He didn't make the Majors. 
Overall, he played in the Giants (83-87) and Athletics (88-89) organizations. 


Ed Jurak played from 1975-1994
He played in the Majors for Boston from 1982-1985, for Oakland in 1988, and for San Francisco in 1989. 
Overall, he played for the Red Sox (75-85), Rangers (87), Athletics (88), Giants (89), Expos (89), and Mariners (90) organizations. 
He also played for the Independent San Jose Bees in 1986, for the Mobile Baysharks in 1994, and in Mexico for two years, 1991-1992


Felix Jose played from 1984-2009
He played in the Majors for Oakland in 1988-1990, St Louis from 1990-1992, Kansas City from 1993-1995, Yankees in 2000, and Arizona in 2002-2003. 
Overall, he spent time in the Athletics (84-90), Cardinals (90-92), Royals (93-95), Cubs (95), Red Sox (96), Blue Jays (96), Yankees (00), Diamondbacks (02-03) organizations.
He also spent time in Mexico (97-98, 02-05, 07-09)
 Independent Leagues (98, 07-09)
and Korea (99, 01, 06, 07)


Gary Jones played from 1982-1989
He never made the Majors. 
Overall, he played in the Cubs (82-85), and Athletics (86-89) organizations. 


Jeff Shaver played from 1985-1990
He played in the Majors for Oakland in 1988.
He spent his entire career in the Athletics organization. 


Jeff Zaske played from 1979-1988
He played in the Majors for Pittsburgh in 1984
Overall, he played in the Pirates (79-86), Rangers (87), Dodgers (88) and Athletics (88) organizations. 


Jim Corsi played from 1982-2000
He played in the Majors for Oakland in 1988, 1989, 1992, 1995, 1996
Houston in 1991
Florida in 1993
Boston in 1997, 1998, and 1999
and Baltimore in 1999
Overall, he played for the Yankees (82-83), Red Sox (85-86, 97-99), Athletics (87-90, 92, 95-96), Astros (91), Marlins (93-94), Orioles (99-00), and Diamondbacks (00) organizations. 


Jimmy Jones played from 1984-1989
He never made the Majors. 
He played for the Athletics (84-88) and Brewers (89) organizations. 

What would have been interesting is if he was on the same team as the pitcher Jimmy Jones. An all Jimmy Jones battery.. 


Joe Xavier played from 1985-1990
He never made the Majors. 
He played in the Athletics (85-88), Brewers (89-90), and Braves (90) organizations. 


Kevin Sliwinski played from 1983-1988
He never made the Majors. 
He played in the Blue Jays (83-87) and Athletics (88) organizations. 


Lance Blankenship played from 1986-1998
He played in the Majors for Oakland from 1988-1993
He spent his career with the Athletics (86-93) organization aside from a season with Sonoma Valley in 1998. 
Two interesting things.. One: He disappeared off the face of the baseball planet from 1993 to 1998.
Two: His last name is misspelled on this card.


Luis Polonia played from 1984-2011
He played in the Majors for Oakland from 1987-1989, Yankees from 1989-1990, from 1994-1995, and in 2000, California from 1990-1993, Atlanta in 1995 and 1996, Baltimore in 1996, and Detroit in 1999 and 2000
Overall, he played in the Athletics (84-89), Yankees (89-90, 94-95, 00), Angels (90-93), Braves (95-96), Orioles (96), and Tigers (99-00) organizations
He also played in Mexico from 1997-1998 and 2001-2002
He also played in the Dominican Winter League from 2006-2011


Matt Sinatro played from 1978-1992
He played in the Majors for Atlanta from 1981-1984, Oakland from 1987-1988, Detroit in 1989, and Seattle from 1990-1992
He played in the Braves (78-86), White Sox (86), Athletics (87-88), Tigers (89), Astros (89), and Mariners (89-92) organizations. 


Orlando Mercado played from 1978-1994
He played in the Majors for Seattle from 1982-1984, Texas in 1986, Detroit and Los Angeles in 1987, Oakland in 1988, Minnesota in 1989, The Mets and Montreal in 1990.
Overall, he played for the Mariners (78-84), Rangers (85-86), Tigers (87), Dodgers (87), Athletics (88), Twins (89), Mets (90-92), Expos (90), Cubs (93), Indians (93), and Angels (94) organizations.  


Reese Lambert played from 1985-1992
He never made the Majors. 
Overall, he played in the Athletics (85-90), Indians (90), Padres (91), and Royals (92) organizations. 


Rich Bordi played from 1980-1990
He made the Majors for Oakland in 1980-1981 and 1988, Seattle in 1982, The Cubs in 1983-1984, The Yankees in 1985 and 1987, and Baltimore in 1986
Overall, he played in the Athletics (80-81, 88-89), Mariners (82), Cubs (83-84), Yankees (85, 87), Orioles (86), and Giants (90) organizations.  


Roy Johnson played from 1980-1997
He played in the Majors for Montreal in 1982 and 1984
Overall, he played in the Expos (80-85), Athletics (86-88) organizations
He also played in Mexico from 1989-1993 and 1997


Tim Meeks played from 1982-1991
He never made the Majors
He played in the Dodgers (82-87), Athletics (87-88), Angels (90), and Pirates (91) organizations. 


Todd Burns played from 1984-1996
He played in the Majors for Oakland from 1988-1991, Texas in 1992-1993, and St Louis in 1993.
Overall, he played in the Athletics (84-91), Rangers (92-93), Cardinals (93), and Mariners (94) organizations. 
He also played Independent ball in Amarillo in 1996 


Tyler Brilinski played from 1985-1989
He never made the Majors
He spent his entire career with the Athletics organization. 



Wayne Krenchicki played from 1976-1988
He played in the Majors for Baltimore from 1979-1981, Cincinnati in 1982-1985, Detroit in 1983, and Montreal in 1986. 
Overall, he played in the Orioles (76-81), Reds (82-85), Tigers (83), Expos (86), Athletics (87-88), Cardinals (88), and Yankees (88) organizations.. 

Not as many big names here, or even many known.. But not everyone makes it big.. 

Next time will either be my birthday presents to myself, or the Denver Zephyrs.

  1. As an A's fan who attended a lot of games in the 80's and 90's... I recognize a lot of these guys. I remember stocking up on Todd Burns and Luis Polonia rookie cards ;D
