Hello friends! Today I'm going to show a couple pictures from the concert that closed out Peterborough Musicfest this year.
Each summer from the end of June to mid-August, an organization called Musicfest puts on free concerts at Del Crary Park. It's a mix of Tributes, New Artists, and Older Artists each summer
This year Serena Ryder, Steven Page, A U2 Tribute band, Sloan, Abbamania, Jim Cuddy, and the person I saw on Saturday, Kim Mitchell.
A lot of the groups over the years are Canadian. I believe they try to focus on local music and Canadian music.
So before Kim Mitchell became a solo artist he was part of the group Max Webster.
I found I knew more songs by Mitchell than I thought I did..
In most cases, I recognized the song, but didn't know the title.
He did perform Patio Lanterns and Go For a Soda
Other songs he did:
Lager and Ale
I'm A Wild Party (He had the crowd yell "Ra Ra Ole!")
Rock and Roll Duty
The Best I Never Had
There were others but I don't remember them
This summer I ended up going to three concerts. That's been more than I've gone to in years.. (I'm lucky to find one I want to see.. BNL also played Budwesier Stage but I didn't know it till about a week before.)
I do like one thing he said before he finished off his set..
"People wonder in this age of lip syncing and autotune about how real the performance is. I don't use backing tracks or lip sync. It's just four guys rocking. Notes will be wrong, lyrics will get messed up. If you go through your videos on your iPhones later and wonder what happened at a certain point in a song, that's what it is. Live mistakes happen. We're just here to rock. "
I'm glad I went to see the concert.
Glad you were able to make it out to three concerts this summer. Haven't been to a concert in years. Got invited to see Morgan Wallen a few weeks ago, but I passed. I knew it was going to be packed... and crowds aren't my thing.
ReplyDeleteMitchell never really made it on this side of the border, but I do remember "Go For Soda" showing up on the radio for a while. Pretty good stuff. But seeing a free Sloan show would be amazing! There's a free music series in Bethlehem PA I've been to a few times, but these days it's mostly tribute bands and kind of generic stuff not worth the trip for me.
ReplyDeleteYeah there are a lot of Canadians that maybe get exposure along the border but don't get heard deeper in the States.
DeleteI think the biggest name I remember there is Tom Cochrane.
By that I mean playing Musicfest
