1988 CMC Louisville Redbirds

 Today I want to go over the 1988 Louisville Redbirds. 

They were the American Association affiliate for the St Louis Cardinals. 

In 1988 they went 63-79

Who was on this team?

Alex Cole bounced around a lot. He played in the Majors for Cleveland (1990-1992), Pittsburgh (1992), Colorado (1993), Minnesota (1994-1995), and Boston (1996)
Overall, he played in the Cardinals (85-89), Padres (90), Indians (90-92), Pirates (92), Rockies (93), Twins (94-95), Red Sox (96), and Marlins (97) organizations. 
He also spent 1998 split between Madison in the Independents and Mexico, and spent 1999-2001 with Bridgeport in the Independents. 

Bill Lyons spent time in the Majors for St Louis in 1983-1984
Overall, he spent time in the Brewers (80), and the Cardinals (81-88) organizations

Ray Stephens spent time in the Majors with St Louis in 1990 and 1991 and with Texas in 1992. 
Overall, he spent time in the Cardinals (85-91), Phillies (92) and Rangers (92-93) organizations. 

Craig Wilson played in the Majors for the Cardinals from 1989-1992 and for the Royals in 1993
Overall. he spent time in the Cardinals (84-92), Royals (93), Rangers (94) and Tigers (96) organizations. 
He also spent part of 1994 in Mexico. 

CRIS Carpenter, not to be confused with the future Jay and Cardinal, played in the Majors for the Cards from 1988-1992, Marlins in 1993, Rangers in 1993-1994, and Brewers in 1996. 
Overall, he played for the Cardinals (88-92),  Marlins (93), Rangers (93-94), Cardinals (95) and Brewers (96) organizations. 

Dave Rajsich played in the Majors for the Yankees (78) and Rangers (79-80)
Overall, he played for the Yankees (75-78), Rangers (79-83), Orioles (85), Cardinals (85-86) Royals (86-87) and Cardinals again (88) organizations. 
He spent 1984 in Japan. 

David Green played in the Majors for the Cardinals from 1981-1984 and again in 1987 and for the Giants in 1985
Overall, he played for the Brewers (79-80), Cardinals (81-84, 87-88), Giants (85) Braves (89) and Rangers (90-91) organizations. 
He also spent time in 1986 in Japan and parts of 1986-1990 in Mexico

Dick Grapenthin played in the Majors for the Expos from 1983-1985
Overall, he played for the Expos (80-85), Padres (86), Cardinals (87-88), Yankees (89) and Tigers (89) organizations. 

Duane Walker played in the Majors for Cincinnati from 1982-1985, Texas in 1985, and St Louis in 1988. 
Overall, he played for the Reds (76-85), Rangers (85), Astros (86) and Cardinals (86-88) organizations. 

Gibson Alba played three games in the Majors for the Cardinals in 1988
Overall, he played for the Pirates (77-78), Cardinals (81), Blue Jays (82-86), Indians (87), Brewers (87) Cardinals (88-90) Braves (90-91) and Brewers (91) organizations. 

Jim Leopold never made it out of the minors. 
He played in the Padres (81-85) Pirates (86) and Cardinals (87-88) organizations. 

Joe Pettini was a coach with the Redbirds in 1987. In 1988, he was the Manager of the Hamilton Redbirds. 

John Costello played in the Majors for the Cardinals 1988-1990, Expos 1990, and Padres 1991. 
Overall, he played for the Cardinals (83-90), Expos (90), Padres (91) and Mariners (92) organizations. 

John Martin didn't make it out of the minors. 
Overall, he played for the Yankees (80), Cardinals (81-88) and Phillies (89-90) organizations. 

John Murphy never made it out of the minors. 
He played his entire career in the Cardinals organization (84-89)


Luis Alicea played in the Majors for the Cardinals in 1988, 1991-1994, 1996, The Red Sox in 1995, Angels in 1997, Rangers from 1998-2000 and the Royals from 2001-2002
Overall, he played for the Cardinals (86-94, 96) Red Sox (95) Angels (97), Rangers (98-00) and Royals (01-02) organizations. 

Mark Dougherty never made it out of the minors. 
He played his entire career in the Cardinals organzation. (83-88)

Mike Fitzgerald played 13 games for the 1988 Cardinals
He spent his career in the Cardinals (84-90) and Phillies (90) organizations. 

Mike Jorgensen was in his second season as Manager in 1988. 
He spent his entire coaching career with the Cardinals. 

Randy O'Neal played in the Majors for the Tigers (84-86) Braves (87) Cardinals (87-88) Phillies (89) and Giants (90)
Overall, he played in the Tigers (81-86), Braves (87) Cardinals (87-88) Phillies (89) Giants (90), and Royals (91) organizations. 
He also played in the Independents in 1994-1995

Rich Buonantony never made it out of the minors. 
Overall, he played for the Cubs (80-83), Brewers (84), Cardinals (85-89), Phillies (89-90) organizations
He also played for the Independent Reno Silver Sox in 1991. 

Roy Silver never made it out of the minors
He spent his entire career with the Cardinals (84-91)

Sal Agostinelli never played in the Majors. 
He spent time in the Cardinals (83-88) and Phillies (89-92) organizations

Tim Conroy played in the Majors for Oakland in 1978 and 1982-1985 and for the Cardinals in 1986-1987
Overall, he played for the Athletics (79-85) Cardinals (86-88) and Pirates (89) organizations. 

Tim Jones played in the Majors for the Cardinals from 1988-1993
Overall, he played for the Cardinals (85-93) Indians (94) and Athletics (95) organizations.
