AAGPBL 2

 Hello Friends!

Today I'm going to show the cards from the third series and update of the Fritsch AAGPBL sets.

I did some searching and I can get most, if not all, of Series 2 for $6+/card on COMC. There is one that I, if I take that route, would purchase right away. I'll explain after I show the Series 3 cards

In looking at these cards, I notice that the averages tended to be very low. Part of why I'd love to go back is to see if it was lack of hitting, or if the defense outpaced the offense.

Ok.. That little blurb above about hitting? I don't know if Eleanor was an outlier or if she was the norm and I just tend to see the low average ladies.

The pitching, from the stats available, looks like it was pretty good in the league. I mean yes, it's a small sampling of the players since I'm focusing on the Canadians, but still

Helen looks to be one of the more accomplished players in the league. I did a little digging and the sharp decline in strikeouts from 1946 to 11947 onward was due to the changes in pitching regulations. They went from underhand to sidearm then overhand and moved the mound back. The adjustment period for Helen was the 1947 season.

Now.. The main get for me from Series 2 that I want:
Series two is the set that has Mary Bonnie Baker in it. She was born in Saskatchewan and was pretty much the face of the league. She appeared on the gameshow "What's My Line?" and was the first female manager in the AAGPBL until the league banned it. She was also the first female sports broadcaster in Canada.

This is the card. I believe there are 12 other Canadians in the series aside from her.

This is a Heritage Minute done by the Canadian Government about her. You can find the actual clip from What's My Line? on YouTube if you search Mary Bonnie Baker
