Signature Saturdays

Hey Hey! It's Saturday.. You know what that means...

Honestly, lately I haven't been able to think of things to blog about aside from Saturdays.. Not much coming in through the mail lately plus just not wanting to show random cards I may or may not have shown is keeping me away a bit.. Well, that and my depression and anxiety..

I have ideas of things I want to try and things I want to do, but I have no clue where to start.. In a way it's almost like when I started making uniforms, hats, and logos for OOTP Baseball.. Then a wonderful member of the OOTP Forums created small programs with templates to help in the creation.

One of the things I'd love to do is try making my own cards.. But again, I have no clue where to start.

Anyway.. Enough of my babbling.. You're here to see what signature I pull out today..

We're going back to the days of Parc Jarry.. Jooohhnnn Bocc! — a — beelllllaaaaaaaa

1973 was the only season of his career that he played in over 100 games.. He played from 1963-1974. In Montreal from 1969-1973. 1974 he was on the Giants.

Here is a recording of the PA Announcer in Jarry Park introducing Boccabella..

Interesting aside. In 1991-92, there was a player on a team in the Midwest Junior Hockey League by the name John Boccabella.. Obviously not the same person, as Junior Hockey in Canada is reserved for teenaged players.. I just wonder if there's a connection to the catcher..

Anyway.. That's it for today

  1. I'm sure that either Gavin, or Greg, from Nine Pockets, would be more than happy to answer any of your card-making questions.

  2. Sent a TTM to him and he graciously returned with a signature. Cool clip of the PA announcer.

  3. Sorry to hear about the depression and anxiety. Both suck big time. Hope you have some things to help you cope. My personal goto has been listening to some comedy podcasts, but if the weather is good... I'll go for a drive or take a stroll.

As for designing custom cards... it'd be cool if some of the custom card blogging legends like the ones Jon mentioned (along with Nick Vossbrink, PunkRockPaint, WTHballs, and I'm sure I'm leaving others out... my apologies) started a new blog where they gave tips and strategies for designing cards... while also giving them an opportunity to share their own stuff and possibly do collaborations.

    1. That would be cool.. I actually am in a discord group that has Nick in it.. I might mention it to him or the general community.. It also has The Shlabotnik Report in there as well..

  4. I got really into OOTP, but then the results annoyed me and I stopped playing lol. I wish I could make customs, though I've said before that if I knew how to make custom trading cards.. I wouldn't do anything else!

I remember Bocabella (and that unique announcer call) from the Expos Nos Amours doc with Donald Sutherland. Really interesting look at the early days of the franchise.

    1. I started by playing Baseball Mogul when it first came out.. Then I found it too easy to just spend my way to winning. Even after seasons of losing hundreds of millions, I'd be fine off because I had close to a billion in my bank.. lol
I get the frustration with the game.. I play historical mostly, and it's tough to play as the 77 Jays and them only win 30 games.. But the annoying part, and what got me into it, was creating the full minor league systems and changing everything around until they added that funtionality into the game.. I have OOTP 22, but I haven't played it in a while due to it being on my laptop with zero disk space..
