Catching Up

I wanted to do a quick post to catch up on some small trades that have come in. These are all from the Team Collectors.. 

First, and I don't have pictures of these since my scanner is buried right now and none on the TCDB exist, but Bowman Platinum Refractor and Gold Refractor JP Arencibia. 

That was from the resident Astros Collector. .

The other one I received was from the Braves Collector, Anthony. 

This was from Gypsy Queen. Since I never see/open GQ, this is a completely new card for me. 

A couple Bowman rookies. Sean Reid-Foley and Ryan Borucki may both see time with the club this year.

A blast from the recent past with Kevin Gregg.. Walmart Black border.. Coupled with the black uniform it's all sorts of black.. 

Vlad Jr. Talking about following in his dad's footsteps.. 

This is another one that's completely new to me, as I don't see/open Fire. 

This card shines the spotlight on the 2016 Wild Card game, where the Jays won over the Orioles.. 

Finally, Danny Jansen..

Some New Expos

I have a person on Facebook that connects with me every so often with a batch of Expos for sale. 

I recently bought the stack he's had for me for a while. I received it today. 

A bunch of it was 90 Donruss and thus added to the duplicate pile numbers for the Project, but he also sent me a number of 1973 Topps.. 

A nice grouping here of cards. 

I like that Boots Day card. The Marshall is a victim of airbrushing.. 

I like that Gene Mauch card and the coaches. 

Something interesting on that Mauch card is this: 

For the coaches it says "Years in OB" 

I imagine that means Organized Baseball.. 

One of the coaches was Larry Doby. 

I figured I'd just scan the front and back to show it better.. 

The last two cards I got that I needed were Ron Woods and Jose Laboy. I'm not sure where the Laboy photo was taken. 

With these cards, I now am four away from having the team set completed.

Changes to the Frankenset

With the last brick of Expos cards I received, I was able to go through and update the Frankenset.. 

While I did that I also made a few changes to cards.. I'll cover those tonight..

I changed out the Foli for that 1970 John Boccabella at the 19 spot. 

I subbed in this John Strohmayer for the Galarraga. I figured a little less School Bus yellow might be ok in the binder. This was 232

Card 303 is now the 1999 Ryan McGuire. I kind of like the action fielding shot in the McGuire card. 

Card 332 is now the 1970 Bobby Wine card. Nothing against Tomas de la Rosa, but the Wine card is more interesting to me.. 

Card 341 is now the 1977 Joe Kerrigan. 

I just like the 1977 design. 

Card 379 is that Lee Smith Score card.. 

Hall Of Famer will trump the 90s Stadium Club design anytime.. 

Card 387 is a 1999 Chris Widger now.. I like the action shot over Nixon looking like he wants to devour my soul.. 

Card 398 is now the 1970 Bill Stoneman. I'll go with the guy who threw a no hitter for the Expos. 

Card 476 was empty until I got this 1992 Fleer DeShields. 

Card 478 was also empty until I received this 1992 Fleer Mike Fitzgerald

Card 491 was empty until I received this 1999 Fleer Tradition Jeremy Powell. 

Card 564 was empty. It's now a 1993 Bowman Miguel Batista. 

Card 616 was empty until I got this 1993 Donruss Pete Young. 

Card 714 is now that 1993 Tim Spehr. I like the design of the 1993 Topps cards over the 1990 cards.. 

Finally, Card 736 was empty until I received this 1993 Upper Deck Archi Cianfrocco. 

The 1993 set was probably my favourite set..

As I get more cards, I will keep looking through and updating.. 

Tony Fernandez

Over the weekend, news came out that Tony Fernandez passed away at age 57. He, of course, was a prominent Blue Jay in the 80s. He was part of the trade bringing Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar to Toronto. He came to the city of Toronto three other times. 

I wanted to show off some cards here tonight in memory. 

Of course, I have to show one of his rookie cards.

One of the cards showing Tony with the Padres. 

I wanted to show these ones for the action shots. 

Tony was brought back in 1993 after Dick Schofield broke his arm and was lost for the season. The other options were Eddie Zosky in the minors, or Alfredo Griffin, who was 38 at the time. 

He was with the Mets when the Jays traded for him in 1993. 

After winning the Series with the Jays, he went to Cincinnati. He spent 1995 with the Yankees. After being out all of 1996, he spent 1997 with Cleveland, helping them to the World Series. 

His third time with the Jays was 1998 and 1999. 

He played for Seibu in Japan in 2000. 

2001 was his final season, spent between Milwaukee and his fourth time in Toronto. 

This was in 2016 Topps Archives 65th Anniversary. 

May he Rest in Peace..
