Jeff Kent

 Hello Friends!

Over the weekend, the Contemporary Era released their ballots to see who will go into Cooperstown next summer.

The ballot for this committee had some pretty good names on it: Dale Murphy, Don Mattingly, Barry Bonds, Carlos Delgado, Roger Clemens, Gary Sheffield, Fernando Valenzuela, and the subject of this post, Jeff Kent.

Now, maybe it's due to the fact that I watched the time his career was happening, but never really watched the teams he played on. Or maybe it's that I feel there were probably 5 names listed above that deserve it more, but Jeff Kent was elected to the Hall of Fame.

So one thing that surprised me was that he has the most homeruns by a second baseman. It's also no coincidence that his best seasons were spent batting behind Bonds.

He came up with the Blue Jays and was traded in 1992 to the Mets with Ryan Thompson for David Cone.

Overall, he played for Toronto, New York Mets, Cleveland, San Francisco, Houston, and Los Angeles Dodgers.

I have 8 cards depicting Kent, all with Toronto or the Mets.

So Congratulations, I suppose, to the newest Hall of Famer, Jeff Kent.

Cards from Benson Pt 2

 Hello Friends!

As we reach the end of the year, I just want to say how grateful I am that you, dear reader, have been here throughout.

Long time readers know I've been having a rough go for the past few years. This one is no exception. December generally sucks for me anyway, but when you factor in my mom passing (in 2006) 5 days before Christmas... And the fact I'm alone all the time now.. Yeah..

Anyway.. Let's look at cards, shall we??

These are more cards from the package I got from Benson.

One part of why I hate coloured parallels is that I'm partially colourblind.
Now, to me, this looks blue. However, the blue parallels are serial numbered. The card isn't, so I'm assuming this is Purple.

The T205 cards were interesting when they came out.

The Stro Show.. I'm not sure where he is anymore. I feel like anywhere he went he wore out his welcome quickly..

Alek Manoah is getting another chance with the Angels.. I hope he does well.. Just not against the Jays..

I love Stadium Club. It's one of those sets that, if I could find it, I'd collect. It's never around me..

Jordan Romano. I kind of followed him this year with the Phils.. It seemed like he didn't quite have it.. I wonder if he's a flash in the pan.

And of course, more Manoah, Gurriel, Romano, and some Springer. I have to say the 88 design looks decent Chromified.

What do you think of this batch of cards?

The Return of the Card Show

 Hello Friends!

Today I went to the card show that I went to last month. They held another one today. A second test show to gauge interest. It was busier than the first one, which is a good sign.. They said there's one in Feb, but they're not sure of the date because the day they booked originally has something about a Superb Owl..

Anyway, before I went,  I had to deal with a little weather. I admit the first few times it looks nice, but after a while it can F right off..

EXPOS!!!!
One of the vendors that was there the first time and I talked between shows. He put together a box of Expos for me. Mainly team sets from the 80s that he has packaged up at home.

That box of Expos was $20. Not a bad price if I do say so myself..

There were a few vendors that had vintage cards. Obviously I was interested in the baseball, but there was a lot of hockey and one had football, including 60s OPC CFL cards.. If I ever expanded into collecting CFL, that would be something to consider.

Anyway, Ron Taylor! As an Astro!

I have to say I love the early Diamond Kings. Here we have Steve Rogers from 83

Some other 83s I needed for the team set. The rest are going to be housed in the Million Expos Project.

84 Donruss. I have to say, I love this design. I feel that this would be one of the more expensive ones to try to complete.

A 69 OPC Pete Ward. It's nice finding Canadians in the wild..

Andre Dawson OPC! I didn't have a copy of this card yet, so here's one now!

1983 Stuart Bakeries. I found out something today while entering them in on TCDB. There are some cards that are missing the writing on the bottom right corner of the photo. You can see that on the Wallach. These are considered error cards, as they did print corrected ones with the writing in place.

I did end up getting one more card for a friend. He's reimbursing me for it. (Man, you got expensive tastes!)

1973-74 OPC WHA.. He's missing three cards. Well, two now.. Bolly Hull and Jacques Plante. This one was marked at $75, but I got it for $40.

I'm looking forward to the next one now. Hopefully it's February 1. I know the date they originally scheduled will cause nobody to be there (including vendors, I think)

Cards from Benson

 Hello Friends!

So not too long ago, the Team Collectors Forum I'm part of took part in a "break" of a box of cards sent to one member by Beau of One Million Cubs fame.

I've been slowly plugging away at going through the cards and I want to show a few of them here today.

The Topps 205 cards were interesting when they came out. I don't see many of them, but here I have both versions of the Vlad card.. Clear logo and white logo..

A Double Jays sticker! Tony Fernandez on the sticker part, and Jesse Barfield on the back.

I always love getting Larry Walker cards, especially when they're of his Expos years

Remember those Credit Card style cards they made in the early 80s? I got a Gold Damaso Garcia now..

Two Tyler O'Neill cards.. I'd love to see him on the Jays one of these years

Blink and you'll miss him.

Dasan Brown. I think this card's rather cool.

Two Ryu cards. I might have three separate versions, but they can be tough to differentiate..

Gallery was an interesting concept.

Good ol' Mascot! Go Mascot Go!!
It annoys me that they either don't have the rights to, or haven't bothered to get the rights to use Ace's name.

A shiny Guerrero. I really like the look of this card

I'm not sure if I got the right version of the Green card showing here.. I'll snap a picture of the card itself later and maybe we can compare..

Finally a shiny A&G Guerrero. I still have more cards to go through, so there will likely be another post from this pile..

So tell me what you think so far.
