Vlad The Elder 2: The Elder Cards

 Hello friends!

It's been a few days, I admit. I'm sorry for that. I'm going to show the rest of the Vlad Sr cards from Doamind King. I still have a pile of miscellaneous Jays to go through.

The 2000s were certainly a time for continued experimentation on cards. It started really in the mid 90s after the strike killed the interest in baseball and by extension, collecting.

Some of the ideas are interesting. Some... Not so much. There was a lot of "player floating in random background" cards in this era..

Even this one I'm not sure if in blue room or if sky..

Some old fashioned baseball action.. Yes!
Seems like every company had to have some sort of "Stadium Club" style cards with the slick naming and interesting cards. I do like this Skybox card but again, not enough to want to get the set.

Victory if I remember, was Upper Deck's version of Opening Day/Whatever... A low-end set to entice new collectors.

Fleer flooded the market at this time of their lifespan.. Seemed like they were just throwing everything out there to see what stuck. Kind of what's going on now with Topps and Fanatics. Rather than taking the time to make a good set that people want to collect, they're just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks..

This is a rather cool card.. I like it.

Fleer Tradition was another one that I'll admit confused me. I don't know the history of Fleer that well but it seemed to me like they were using Bowman/Topps designs from the 60s.

It's a Bowman..

Though blurry, I think this was taken at Wrigley.. That wall looks very ivy-ish..

Topps 206 annoys the hell out of me. Trying to find it, remembering that it's basically spanning three years in collecting, but on TCDB, they have it in 2002.. Copyright says 2003.. ARGH!

Topps Total when it was good

You can tell this set came out when there was the influx of Baseball card games. I never got to play any of them. I honestly don't know if they were any good or not.

Can't go wrong with a drawn Diamond King card..

Ending with the newer retro chrome cards.. I do like that second to last card..

So that is what I have to add to my Vlad Sr/Expos collections.

Tell me dear reader, what are your favourite cards from the ones here?

  1. The Avant, maybe the Box Score and the mini 3D / lenticular disc card.

  2. a. Whoa. That's a lot of scans. Kudos to you for taking the time to do that.

    b. I love the E-X products from that era. Each were a little different, but well designed. And they always gave off a high end vibe.

    c. I've always wondered how some of those Fleer Tradition designs got away with some of those designs that resembled vintage Topps designs. That being said... it's the reason I do enjoy the 2001 Fleer Tradition set so much.
